About

As a fan of Atlus’ game series, Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal, I took the challenge in designing the brand identity of the in-game’s famous curry and coffee shop, Café Leblanc (純喫茶ルブラン, Junkissa Ruburan).

This personal side project is to explore a creative brand strategy to design for a restaurant that serves food and drinks, in this case: coffee and curry — yum!

In the game, customers will visit the family owned restaurant, which is actually run by one person named Sojiro Sakura who claims curry tastes the best when it’s paired with a cup of pour over coffee. Sojiro has a collection of coffee beans sourced from other countries and carries various coffee beans — Kona, Arabica and more.

This shop is famous for — Leblanc coffee and Leblanc curry.

Considerations of sustainability

Many of our trash bins are piled up due to the type of packaging we purchase. In the case of Café Leblanc, in most of the shipments of the pounds of coffee bean bags which are made of Polyethylene Terephthalate, a lightweight plastic, is not recyclable in all areas. If Sojiro wants to sell packaged coffee beans to his customers, how can he reduce additional waste in selling his bags of coffee beans?

Packaging for Coffee Beans

With a rise of the waste bins piling up and global warming, the packaging for the coffee beans will be using Kraft Paper, a biodegradable paper to store the packaged beans for sustainable design. The packaging will be designed to have the flat bottom and the flap glued on the top for easier shelving display. Customers can easily scan the selection of coffee beans available to purchase then compositing after consumption.

As a reference to the video game, I chose the color red for the signature coffee, Leblanc Coffee to stay true to the game series branding colors.
